Complex conjunctives and their impact on cohesion and coherence in upper-secondary students' semi-formal essays

The thesis aims to explore the usage of complex conjunctives in upper-secondary students' semi-formal essays. It deals with written discourse produced by two groups of students of B1 and B2 (CEFR) levels, uncovers the differences in their use, explores their impact on cohesion and coherence and looks at the students' understanding of these concepts. In total, 40 essays in two B1 and B2 subcorpora are analysed through a corpus analysis tool inspired by the framework of Halliday and Hasan. Prior to that, analyses of writing sections in three students' books from the perspective of Teachability Hypothesis and Processability Model are conducted to establish the potential frequency and conjunctive type scale. Both qualitative and quantitative analyses showed that upper-intermediate students employ more complex conjunctives than intermediate students, even though the difference is not substantial. The data also indicate that both groups prefer initial sentence placements to the medial positions, and that additives are used over adversatives. Furthermore, the analyses uncovered surprising results, for example, in the area of paragraph-initially and paragraph- internally used conjunctives. Analysis of textbooks for Informatics and ICT subjects in basic schools in Russia and in Slovakia

The theoretical part deals with characteristics of printed textbooks as didactical tools and as curriculum projects, including descriptions of textbook structures and their many functions. It acquaints with the methods used to mark and analyze textbooks, especially according to the evaluation criteria. The experimental part uses the questionnaires to show Informatic teachers' use and need of textbooks in the elementary schools in the Czech Republic. It also focuses on the mapping available in textbooks for ICT and computer-focused subjects used in Slovakia, Russia and the Czech Republic. It also conducts their content analysis and comparison using a quantitative method focused on the thematic tasks and activities of selected textbooks in consideration to the number of pages.

The Importance and the Analysis of Textbooks for Teaching Accounting in the Secondary Technical School

This thesis deals with the analysis of accounting textbooks for secondary schools. The main aim of this thesis is to analyze three Czech, three Slovak and five Austrian textbooks on the basis of selected evaluation criteria. The subject of the analysis was to assess the didactic aspects, text difficulty and content textual analysis. All the assessed textbooks are currently widely used for teaching accounting at comparable types of secondary technical school finished by graduation exams: business academies in the Czech and the Slovak Republic and Handelsakademie in Austria. The comparison of the results is an integral part of the research. The secondary aim was to give recommendations to the contemporary authors of accounting textbooks.

The biogeography as a part of the teaching matter in basic schools

This chapter are addressed to pupils of secondary schools. It is based on analyses of geography and biology textbooks. This thesis also proposes incorporation and implementation of this topic to the tutorial of secondary schools.
